Treatment

If your rectal prolapse is minor and detected promptly, self-care measures like using stool softeners to help with bowel movements and manually repositioning the rectal tissue. may be recommended. However, because the muscles do not repair themselves in adults, surgery will eventually be required to repair the prolapse. There are several surgical options for restoring the rectum to its proper position, with the decision based on factors such as your overall health, age, and the severity of the condition.
